I am licensed to practice massage therapy by the State of Rhode Island, (RI Dept of Health Lic#01856). I am nationally ceftified by the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, and I am a professional member of the American Massage Therapy Association. I received my training at the Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy in 2010. I am currently accepting new clients in my Westerly office. In addition to my office practice I am also available for in-home massage for elderly clients, and business-sponsored chair massage at your place of work. I regularly participate at community events such as wellness expos and road races.
My own experience of therapeutic massage dates back many years. I initially sought massage for its psychological benefits; relief from anxiety and depression, as a means of achieving more restful sleep, and improved mental focus and clarity. I much later came to know its benefits on a purely muscular level; just one week before I was scheduled to begin my training at CCMT I experienced a particularly painful tear to my left calf muscle. I still remember how angry I was to be suddenly sidelined while on a family vacation in Florida. Following my accident I was referred to a physical therapy practice which integrated deep-tissue massage into their treatment regimen. The massage strokes I received were deeper (and slightly less comfortable) than the techniques I had been accustomed to. Techniques I had never heard of such as longitudinal stripping and cross-fiber friction were employed to break up the fascial adhesions that resulted from the tear to my muscle. I would later work at the very same physical therapy practice following the conclusion of my training at CCMT. What seemed at the time to be an annoying inconvenience would later be viewed as all part of a gloriously orchestrated, serendipitous turn of events.
Whether I am performing deep-tissue, sports massage, myofascial release, acupressure or more traditional Swedish massage I thoroughly enjoy helping my clients feel better. Whether your goal is general relaxation, diminished stress and anxiety, pain reduction, post-surgical rehabilitation, improved athletic performance or any combination of the above, massage is a safe and effective alternative therapy.
